JSMC Health is a private, not-for-profit health organization that comprises an acute-care hospital, Jennie Stuart Medical Center; free-standing medical imaging, outpatient surgery, laboratory and rehabilitation services; and an integrated physician network that includes an owned physician practice, BluegrassMD.
Additions for 2012 include a new treatment for a disorder of the esophagus, sleep studies in the home, and great new doctor and nurse leaders now in our Emergency Department.

A new educational program encouraging skin-to-skin contact between parents and their newborns is now offered at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. Registered nurses at the hospital have been trained as community educators in the Kangaroo Care initiative and are planning two free lectures on the program the weeks before and after Mother’s Day:
- Tuesday, May 8, 6 p.m. at the Christian County Health Department.
- Thursday, May 17, 5-7 p.m. at the “World’s Greatest Baby Shower,” at Hopkinsville Community College.

Another new program is a sleep apnea screening to help people understand the causes of breathing cessation during sleep and appropriate treatments. Staff from JSMC’s Sleep and Neurodiagnostic Center will hold the screenings on:
- Friday, May 11, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Friday, May 18, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The screenings will be held at the Sleep Center, 1st floor of the Doctors Pavilion at JSMC. For more information, call (270) 887-6883.
Staff physicians will be speaking on:
- Overactive bladder by Jenny Franke, MD, on Monday, April 30, 6 p.m., Cotthoff Learning Center, lower level of the Doctors Pavilion at JSMC.
- Weight-loss surgery informational seminar by Gerame Wells, MD, FACS, on Saturday, May 12, 10 a.m., Cotthoff Learning Center, lower level of the Doctors Pavilion at JSMC.
